while also hiring large numbers of new staff, thues reaching 2,200 employees in 1979. these employ- ees then had to undergo several months of training provided by the contracting American companies, either on site or through educational trips to the United States. By 1979, HAI was also employing 140 foreign employees from the consortium’s subsidiar- ies, while nine of the 17 managers of the company’s services and departments were American.
One of the last issues that had to be settled was the acquisition of the capacity for general repair/inspection of specific types of aircrafts
and engines based on the needs of the Hellenic Air Force. the Hellenic Air Force General Staff (GEA) had already issued a decision in August 1977 to assign the general repair of the new F-4s exclusively to the HAI. In this context, the Hellenic Air Force would provide technical training to the HAI personnel at the training centre in Andravida. At the same time, General Electric would also be responsible for providing training and certification for the general repair of its own J-79 engines used in the Phantoms.
