the other major front of HAI’s repair activity was the undertaking of repairs to the aircraft en- gines of the NAtO fleet. In early 1981, the HAI succeeded in securing an agreement with USAFE (United States Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa) for the repair of F-4 J-79 aircraft engines, which was continually renewed until 1991. In 1982, it signed a contract with NAPMA (NAtO AEW & C Program Management Agency) for the par- tial repair of the Jt-3D engines used in NAPMA’s specially configured Boeing E-3 Sentry aircraft. the program would become one of HAI’s long- est-running international collaborations. In 1985, the HAI signed another major contract with the
RAF (Royal Air Force) for the maintenance of its fleet’s J-79 engines. During the period 1980-1985, the workload for international repair programs amounted to approximately 500,000 man-hours per year and represented approximately 20% of the company’s total production activity.
