TΗLEMACHUS
Surveillance and Moving-Target Detection Radar System
The THLEMACHUS system is a radar designed and manufactured using Doppler technology, operating as a security sensor and anti-drone system for the detection of extremely small moving targets, both on the ground and in the air.
Leveraging FMCW / Doppler radar technology, the system provides detection capabilities for people, vehicles, and small unmanned aerial vehicles, contributing to enhanced surveillance of installations, critical infrastructure and high-security areas.
Capabilities
Its operation relies on advanced technological principles, enabling it to remain “invisible” while simultaneously staying highly effective in all operating conditions.
Doppler Technology
Transmits and receives frequency simultaneously, distinguishing moving targets with high precision. This allows the system to isolate even the slightest motion from a static background.
Extremely Low Transmission Power
Transmission power is lower than that of an ordinary mobile phone, making the radar undetectable by hostile interception systems – consistent with Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) operation.
Simultaneous Target Detection
Using specialized waterfall-display software, the system can simultaneously detect and distinguish people, vehicles and mini-drones on the same screen.
Very Low-Altitude Operation
Operationally proven to detect mini-drones at ranges exceeding 800 meters, even when flying at altitudes as low as 30 centimeters above ground level, at both high and low speeds.
Urban Environment
Operates effectively within cluttered, built-up environments (cities, military camps, border areas), filtering out static obstacles such as buildings.
System Overview
THLEMACHUS operates as a medium-range surveillance sensor, providing early awareness of presence and movement within a predefined area of interest.
The system can be deployed either autonomously or as a supplementary sensor within existing electro-optical or multi-sensor ground surveillance systems, enhancing the operational picture under degraded-visibility conditions such as night, fog or smoke.
Its Anti-Drone Evolution
Detection:
The Doppler radar “sees” the threat.
Neutralization (Soft-Kill):
The system now incorporates a directional jammer. Once a hostile drone is detected, the jammer “blinds” the drone’s remote-control frequencies, forcing it to land or return to its launch point.
Operational Applications
Military Installations
Enhanced surveillance of bases, depots, security perimeters and areas of operational interest.
Airports
Security support for airport facilities and critical operational zones.
Critical Infrastructure
Protection of industrial, energy, port and other facilities of national importance.
High-Security Areas
Surveillance of designated areas requiring early detection of presence or movement.
Greek Surveillance Expertise
With THLEMACHUS, the Hellenic Aerospace Industry strengthens domestic expertise in radar systems, surveillance and the protection of critical installations.
The system forms part of HAI’s broader technology ecosystem for countering modern threats, operating in complementary fashion alongside Counter-UAS solutions and electronic surveillance systems.
