ceeded to convert 170 billion drachmas of the company’s debts into shares. this symbolic move showcased the Greek government’s determina- tion to support the HAI.
Having overcome its financial difficulties, the HAI returned in the mid-1990s as a dynamic industrial enterprise. During this period, the HAI completed the major infrastructure program that had been launched in 1988 to upgrade its facilities so that it could meet the repair and construction needs of the Short Sea Shipping (NMA). During this period, the HAI also proceeded with a total upgrade of its digital and computer systems network, installing CAD/CAM software and systems and an Integrat- ed Digital System (OPS). this essentially marked
HAI’s transition to the digital age, with the crea- tion of a software and hardware infrastructure that would encompass all the company’s activities.
In 1997, the HAI adopted its strategic plan for the period 1997-2006. One of its key objectives was to establish strategic partnerships and MUOs with major foreign companies such as Boeing, Dassault, Dornier, Lockheed, and Pratt & Whitney. Another parameter of the strategic plan was the establishment of subsidiaries and participation in affiliated companies. In 1998, EMC Hellas, the first subsidiary of the HAI, was established, with ERt holding a 30% stake in the share capital of 100 million drachmas. Since 2007, the company has been wholly owned by the HAI. A third guiding
